A Most Dreadful Beginning is a Romance takes place during Escala: A Broken World. The Gods have abandonned the Elves, leaving them scattered and, in many places, enslaved to Mankind. Islatuim, the very first Elven Capital of the Second Age, is their only refuge.
Here we meet three Elven children, in their first, second and third centuries as war hovers on a knife edge netween the Elven Wood and the Men of Terium. Emn, a child whose bright Blonde hair it turning a dreaded brown, Faendil, her abusive brother -who is in love with our third, quite enigmatic character, a young Elf named Eleanor. I will say no more about Eleanor here, though you will soon understand that any Elf old enough to understand is fiercely afraid of her.
We also meet the young Prince Chaian, of Terium as he rides into the forest, cursing his luck, and somehow, hoping to get rid of the Kingsman that won't let him be, as he goes to meet with the enchanting Elf girl whose eyes are brighter than the stars themselves.
